What We Are Doing

HCCA opposes the development of 767 New Haw Creek Road as currently planned. Below are the steps we are taking to help stop the proposed development of 95 homes on this landmark property.

What we are doing

  • Leading a Working Group to organize and implement action steps
  • Meeting with City representatives to clarify development project points
  • Identifying conditions to include in the Conditional Zoning
  • Undertaking a traffic study to determine operational and safety impacts
  • Determining key dates for public input during the approval process
  • Hosting a City Council Candidates Forum prior to the primary election
  • Launching a campaign to mobilize community members
  • Providing resource info through our 767 Development webpages
  • Publishing news posts as we learn new information
  • Sending email updates to our members and subscribers
  • Utilizing social media to expand our reach in the community

A HISTORY OF SUCCESS

Many people are asking what can be done to prevent this development. We can look to our history for an example. In the late 1990s, a major apartment complex was planned along Avon Road. The community rallied and united to face the challenge and won, resulting in a new community asset – Haw Creek Park.

An engaged and united neighborhood association is critical in this fight. An essential first step you can take is to join the Haw Creek Community Association. As a member of HCCA, you can take an active role in the work ahead. Members will receive timely updates on our progress and, most importantly, alerts when we must mobilize residents to take action.
